Bridge Street Railroad Crossing To Be Fixed

Now I don't want to see all the posts because the road is torn up. You ask and you receive!!

Ditto

Now, as this moves forward, and it inevitably will fall in to disrepair again, let's plan on loading up the tracks with junk cars once the crossing becomes a hazard again.

If HRRC has a problem with the shutting down of their right-of-way, perhaps it will motivate them to rectify the situation.

Word is the State DOT is very wrong on how they choose to interpret the law regarding maintaining the crossings. Our DOT is corrupt beyond belief. Why can't the Governor do something about that? DOT isn't in a flood plain, is it?

Anonymous said...

You know I never had a problem with the tracks. I found that if I gassed it I would just fly over all the bumps. It seems to be all the people who actually crawled over them that had the problem!!
It doesn't matter who interpreted what wrong - it's being done so quit the blame game.

Maybe Tom Morey should send a letter.

Can't stop the blame game yet, Bridge st. isn't the only crossing in town. We need it resolved because the other crossings ain't doing so great. Who fixes the crossings on town owned roads?

Anonymous said...

HRRC is going to claim they aren't responsible for Long Mountain, Brown's Forge, RoosterTail Hollow, River Road, Boardman Road, Mill Street, South Avenue, Grove Street, Pickett District Road...

So basically, this is a $50K bill for each.

Has Town Council planned for this?

Anonymous said...

if it costs $50k each, it's WAAAYYY TOO MUCH

maybe that's why HRRC is shitting the bed

The crossings you are mentioning I use quite often and none are in the condition of Bridge St crossing. Just because one NEEDS repair doesn't mean we have to do them all.
I think you have to consider the volume of traffic that uses Bridge St.
Mud Pond? Five cars a day?

Anonymous said...

Yes please ignore the other 9 crossings because they don't get the same volume of traffic.

Especially the crossing on Grove Street, no one used that during the flooding.

HRRC will see the error of their ways before the next crossing fails. No people whine and the DOT gets the bill.

The remainder of the crossings, the town will end up with the bill.

Why not replace them all! The HRRC and the State will pay - and you wonder why all taxes are high. I would rather put the money into fixing roads that are broken already. I used the Grove St crossing during the flood and didn't see any problem but I'm sure you must have.

Every year, Town Council doesn't budget enough money for winter.

Do you think there is enough money spent on roads?

Do you think they have any money for railroad crossings?

I want to know when we went from building the best road system in the world to a third world country where potholes are accepted because we're too cheap to fix what's broken.

The road itself is realy bad to before and after the tracks. im not saying the tracks are not just the road needs help also.

I have to ask this because I am stupid. Wouldn't this go out to bid of at least three different contractors?

I also don't see how it could cost 50k for each crossing. Not every crossing in town is the same length. I could also see 50k for all the crossings to be done correctly.

I don't mind the crossings getting torn up. I don't want to see it torn up for 3 months.

Are you in the construction business?

First it's 12 + hours to dig it up with at least 2 police officers for traffic x $60/hour. = $1440

You have to saw cut on both sides
You have to remove the tracks
You have to remove the crossing pads and dispose of.
Then you need to prepare the subbase.
You need to install new pads.
Then install the rails.
Then pave up to the new crossing pad.

Oh yeah, you need an excavator, a dump truck or two. You need a compactor... And someone to run each of those.

Oh yeah and signs for a detour.
and avoid any wires or other utilities. And god forbid you find anything broken. Should they cover over it or fix?

All that is free?

This is why the Railroad WILL NOT pay for it.

What would create the most value for New Milford residents?
train service?
retail stores?
offices?
manufacturing?
Lower taxes?
better schools?
More open space?

A new Mayor!!!

Anonymous said...

I think the current Mayor needs a 4 year term so she doesn't have to worry about reelection and can do the right thing vs. the popular thing.

Although, I have to say she is adept at knowing both.

Dog park, skate park, tennis courts, trails,...

Jeff Winter should have said thank you for directing the ship thru the recession and now is time to fix some things we didn't have money for.

I agree with 7:30 a.m. totally. I think that the mayor has done spectacular job. All of you whiners just try her job for a week or so. You wouldn't be able to do it. Every day something new and having to deal with many personalities and juggle the town money. It's a thankless job and you have to have a lot of patience.

Pat Murphy won't do the job forever and the town will suffer when she doesn't want to run again.

Meet the PTO/Cheerleader Candidates Night.
oops I mean BOE Candidates Night.

This is your opportunity to meet with the New Milford Board of Education candidates, ask questions and hear their views and perspectives.
Moderated by Attorney Ken Taylor.

In their contract negotiations, I hear the BOE teachers are treating last years wage freeze as a deferral of their raise vs. a wage freeze.

Plus their usual step increases, longevity pay, sick time, vacation days...

Stop the insanity.

Thank god they get the summer off. I'd be exhausted working 2-1/2 entire weeks before I get a thursday off.

Followed by 2 entire weeks and then a tuesday off.
Followed by 2 days before a Friday off.
Followed by 8 entire days before 2-1/2 days off.

Exhausting.

They need a raise and a sick day.

But please let the paras/cafeteria workers make up the difference.
Paying the "little" people the same will save the budget.

wow, I drove over the tracks today and what a great job they did! I can see why you posted letters dated from July Jay. It must be because the repairs were happening so fast.

I most have missed the meeting with the DOT Commissioner.

Anonymous said...

I notice the river hasn't flooded this week.

I suggest we protest the businesses in the flood plain until they apologize.

What laws would be broken if the town simply paved over the tracks?

Apparently neither DOT nor the Railroad own the tracks.

I assume the first person to plant a flag owns them.

That crossing is looking GREAT! Thanks for posting this Jay.

Bridge Street (Route 202 and Route 67) at the railroad crossing will be closed for replacement of the at grade crossing from November 1 through November 3, 2011. Local traffic, please use alternate routes. Thru traffic, please follow detour signs. All properties will be accessible at all times during the construction.

Right before election day. How convenient! She is lucky she's running unopposed!

It's not the town's road.
Do you want it fixed or not?
