Town Council Votes 3.7% Tax Increase

Subject to Treasurer Ray Jankowski's fine-tuning, the Council approved a Budget tonight that results in a 3.7% tax increase and a mill rate of 22.13. The Budget now goes to the BOF that will have a Public Hearing on April 2 and begin its deliberations on April 4.

More to follow.

I read the related article in the NT this morning.

Murphy said "A little Yankee ingenuity is in order."

Yes, this doesn't seem too bad....it looks to me that request cuts are mostly coming from savings and creative ways to fund things.

Empirically, this looks to be reasonable without too much pain.

But it would be better if increases could be kept even lower.

This is creative accounting, pure and simple.

With all the fraud, waste and abuse going on at the BoE, why didn't the TC reduce the bloated school budget?

The TC has proven itself to be a cowardly assembly of do-nothing blowhards!

When I add the numbers up shown here, along with the Mayors cut of $1.7 million, I show a total of $2,869,889.00 cut to the BOE. That is a little over $1,000,000 from where they were last year. Considering the teachers and other personnel (custodians, security, maintenance, etc) get a yearly average raise of 3%, how much more should have been cut from their budget? I really wonder- what would you like to have seen cut?
